CIBIDA

A store that speaks the patient’s language

CIBIDA is a Colombian line of functional dermocosmetics that cares for sensitive, very dry skin during cancer treatment. We redesigned its WooCommerce store end to end on the same installation: a new catalog model with kits, clinical content in editable fields, a custom slide-out cart, a 100 % Spanish checkout, Wompi payments in production and working transactional email. All through the API, without server access, in three weeks from access to launch. Built for a partner agency in Colombia.

The Challenge

CIBIDA’s Línea ONC cares for sensitive, very dry skin during radiotherapy, with CBD and cannabis seed oil.

The brand already had a live WooCommerce store, but it did not reflect the business: old products and prices, placeholder descriptions and a template blog page. CIBIDA had invested in a new design and in clinical content, with study figures, ingredients by function and agency photography, yet none of it lived in the store, and the local payment gateway it needed was not operational.

  • — A catalog that didn’t match the business: the final line is a body cream in two sizes, an oil, a deodorant and three kits, and the price list changed mid-project
  • — Clinical content (studies, indications, ingredients, usage and FAQs) trapped in a 2.2 MB static mockup that no one on the team could edit
  • — No local payment gateway in production, a checkout with English strings, and a site email that failed because the host blocks outbound SMTP
  • — Zero server access: the host’s firewall blocked the control panel, FTP did not work and there was no WP-CLI, so everything had to go through the WordPress REST API and be verified live
Our Solution

Seven systems in production, all built on the same installation and shipped through the API: the catalog and its clinical content, a store-first homepage with a custom cart, a localized checkout, Wompi payments, transactional email and compliance, an editable CMS with a B2B channel and a clinical blog, and a cleaned-up platform with QA on every change.

  • + Catalog model · the body cream as a variable product in two sizes, three kits as fixed-price products with declared contents, and discontinued products moved to draft, not deleted
  • + Editable clinical content · eight ACF fields per product, exposed over REST, drive the cards, the quick view and the product page from a single source, with study results as animated bars
  • + Custom slide-out cart on the WooCommerce Store API · quantity stepper, remove item and a Subtotal / Shipping / Total breakdown with “VAT included”
  • + Checkout · 100 % Spanish and on-brand, with the strings gettext could not reach fixed through specific hooks, and flat-rate shipping verified through the API
  • + Payments · Wompi in production with a webhook that validates signatures, and an unused second gateway removed so only one gateway is active
  • + Email & compliance · mail moved to a local, aligned sender with delivery verified; a B2B request form, a 16-field PQR form and seven legal documents as modals, aligned with Colombian consumer and data-protection law
  • + Platform · 27 → 14 plugins, a lightweight theme, backups at every step and Playwright QA at 390, 768 and 1366 px with zero horizontal overflow

Under the hood

Built through the API, without a back door.

This was not a visual refresh. Underneath, we rebuilt the catalog model, moved content into structured fields, built a cart layer of our own on the WooCommerce API, localized the checkout through hooks, put a payment gateway with a webhook into production and solved email delivery under hosting restrictions. All of it with zero FTP, zero control panel and zero WP-CLI.

01

Kits that inherit the evidence

Each kit has its own price and declared components, and since kits have no study of their own, their clinical section combines the evidence of the two products inside.

02

Totals that add up

Prices include VAT, so the cart shows the tax at zero with a “VAT included” note instead of charging it twice, and subtotal plus shipping equals the total, verified through the API.

03

The store is the homepage

At the client’s request, shopping happens on the homepage: the old shop URL redirects to the product section, and the grid now shows the full catalog instead of hiding the sixth product.

04

PHP without FTP

Server-side hooks ship through the Code Snippets REST API; one-off tasks run as temporary snippets that are deleted afterwards. Templates not exposed in REST were edited from an authenticated browser, with a backup before every change.

05

Designing around the firewall

The host’s firewall added about four seconds to every REST call. Instead of fighting it, the front end makes a single prefetch for the whole catalog and caches it in memory, so the quick view opens in about 20 ms.

06

Hybrid AI Coding

Senior engineering set the architecture, the catalog model and every client decision, while AI agents implemented builders, snippets and deployment scripts under direction, with independent Playwright QA on every change.
